Stimulating the economy

I bought a bunch of stuff this weekend:

  • The new Badly Drawn Boy album.
  • “Retro,” the New Order 4 CD box set.
  • A couple of Spider-Man TPB’s, reprinting all the JMS issues that I didn’t already have.
  • A Hulk TPB, reprinting the first Bruce Jones issues.
  • The Powers “Who Killed Retro Girl?” TPB.
  • ASP.NET in a Nutshell. Not as fun as the other stuff, but necessary.

So, I’ve got a lot of listening and reading to do. Too bad I still don’t seem to have enough spare time for all this. Oh well!

(The motivation for buying all the comics, by the way, was a gift certificate that I got for Christmas. I’m not on some mad buying spree. Really.)

Daredevil

Read about a year’s worth of Daredevil today. Brian Michael Bendis is doing a heck of a job on the title, although the pacing of the story is pretty slow. If I’d actually read this stuff over the course of a year, I’d probably have gotten pretty impatient with him. I stopped reading with the last issue before the trial started; I’ll go through that run in a few months, maybe.

I found a good Daredevil site, too: ManWithoutFear.com. Lots of links to reviews, wallpaper, and other stuff.

Sore throat and Fantastic Four

Right after I posted my last message, I started getting a sore throat. I barely got any sleep Tuesday night, then woke up Wednesday feeling horrible! Flu, I think. I took Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off from work, and I only worked a half-day today. And I had only been over my cold for about a week. I think I’m going to forget about any lofty goals I might have had for this year, and just shoot for staying healthy for more than a week at a time.

As long as I had so much time to myself, I got started with my FF 51-100 project mentioned below. I’ve got 4 issues in my hands now, another 7 on the way, and a few still waiting to see if I win them on eBay. I’ve also got the Marvel Masterworks volume with FF 1-10 on the way. I figure I can get 1-50 through Masterworks volumes, and get the original issues for 51-100. I’m trying to stay below $10/issue, and I’m doing OK on that so far, getting good reading copies. I’m hoping some of the old Masterworks volumes get reprinted at some point, since they seem to be going for anywhere from $40 to $100, or even more in some cases. It would be nice if I could pick them up for cover price.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man related stuff I saw in Wal-Mart today:

  • Movie novelization by Peter David.
  • About six other Spider-Man books, including one novel (hardcover and softcover available) and a couple of kiddie books.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man TPBs Vol. 1 and 2.
  • Spider-Man cotton candy.
  • Spider-Man Pop-Tarts.
  • Other stuff I can’t remember.

The merchandising blitz has begun!
