NJ PBS changes

I just noticed that the old NJ Spotlight News program with Briana Vannozzi aired its last episode on September 30, and there’s a new version with Rob Nelson that started up on October 1. I blogged about the changes with NJ PBS in July; I guess the transition is complete now.

The final program for the old newscast was pretty interesting, and covered a bit about the history of the program overall. I had started watching the show regularly in 2020, during COVID, and continued watching it nightly for quite a while. When I canceled YouTube TV, I transitioned to watching it on (regular) YouTube, but I wasn’t keeping up and watching it every night anymore. Since I just signed up for YouTube TV again, maybe I’ll start watching it nightly again. I’m not sure.

I don’t know why they found it necessary to completely revamp the program, with a new anchor and new correspondents. They had a very good team there. It seems that the NJ Spotlight News website will continue to exist, so I guess some members of the old team are still going to be working. I’m curious to see how this will all work out.

Public TV & radio are in a very precarious place right now. I’m currently supporting channel 13, but maybe I should switch to supporting NJ PBS instead, now that they’re independent of WNET. (Of course, I could support both, though that might confuse things with my PBS Passport subscription.)
