new computer guts

I’m thinking about replacing most of the guts of my desktop computer again. I last did this in October 2002, so I’m about due. I’m looking at an ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard, an Athlon 64 3200+ processor, an Asus AX550 video card, a gig or two of Corsair RAM, a WD 250 GB hard drive, and maybe a DVD burner and a new power supply. The lot could set me back about $900. I still need to do some more research, but I think I’ve identified a bunch of stuff that should work well together. I’ll probably be sticking with Newegg again — I got the parts for my current computer from them, and they’ve generally been competent and fair.

spending money

My new mattress is mighty comfy. Definitely worth the money.

I ordered a new iBook today. Basically, the current standard 14″ model, with the RAM upped to 1 GB. I’m getting almost $500 for my old one, which pays for a bit under half the new one. Good deal.

No More Palm.Net

Palm.Net to cease 31 August: I discontinued my Palm.Net account some time ago, but I still have my Palm i705. I guess the antenna is officially useless now. Oh well. The web service on my cell phone is pretty bad. Time to switch to a Treo 600 maybe?

new notebook computer

I’ve been thinking about buying a new notebook computer. I don’t absolutely need one, but the old one is getting a little dated. I’ve been thinking that maybe I’m jumping the gun, and the old one ought to hold me for another year, but I just checked, and I bought it in January 2001, so it’s more than three years old now. And I bought it refurbished. So, yep, it’s about time.
