The Gates

PICT0045

I went to see The Gates today. I have to admit that I was impressed. The whole thing looks great. The effect is quite surprising. This article in the Times sums things up pretty well.

I took about 50 pictures, and uploaded them here. Looking through them again, I find myself wanting to go back for another look.

For the record, I edited some of the pictures in Paint Shop Pro, and left others as-is, so the color is sometimes a bit different between pictures. I found that most of them looked best without any finagling, even if they were a bit dark.

(Edit: these photos can now be found on Flickr.)

Comic Book Guy

Comic Book Guy’s real name was revealed during last night’s post-football Simpson’s episode: Jeff Albertson. Not terribly exciting, but it sounds about right. Also, there was a brief shot of CBG’s web site, www.dorks-gone-wild.com, which is, of course, now a real web site, presumably created by the Simpson’s folks.

Synchronicity

Mark Evanier points out today that SFMOMA is running a Roy Lichtenstein exhibit right now, and that SFMOMA is conveniently located across the street from the Moscone Center, where Wondercon will be taking place in a couple of weeks.

I had actually intended on checking out SFMOMA while I was out there, but I think I’ll skip the Lichtenstein exhibit. I don’t hate him quite as much as many other comics fans do, but I can’t really say I have any respect for him either. I’d much rather look at the John Romita and Russ Heath originals than the silly little copies that this guy made and passed off as “Art”.

Patrick

Today is the first anniversary of my brother Pat’s death. Here’s a link to some old pictures of him I posted a while back. And here’s a link to Heather’s “memory of” page. And a link to a page at the Rutgers NJEDL site about him.

In his memory, everyone should listen to Manowar and watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force today.
