Dreamworks Animation
I went to a Dreamworks Animation presentation in NYC today. It was pretty impressive: lots of celebrities, lots of clips, lots of fun. It was hosted by Al Roker. They brought in Jerry Seinfeld, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, and Justin Timberlake, among others. Seinfeld is working on a movie about bees. Chris Rock is in Madagascar. And of course Mike Myers is working on the next Shrek movie. Unfortunately, so is Justin Timberlake — he’s going to play King Arthur. That might not turn out to be as bad as it sounds. We’ll see.
We also got to see Nick Park and some stuff from the upcoming Wallace and Gromit movie. It looks to be at least as good as the various shorts. We also got to see some stuff from Aardman’s first computer-animated movie. They didn’t show much, but it looked interesting. The style is similar to W&G, just done in computer animation instead of clay.
I still like Pixar a lot more than Dreamworks, but hey, they’re trying. And anyone who’ll pay for a W&G movie can’t be all bad.
Oh, and through what I can only imagine was a clerical error, we ended up in the second row. So I could see right up Chris Rock’s nose. Cool.

Hueytown
My Guestbook has a new entry in it from a fellow named Wallace Andrew Huey, who pointed me to the Hueytown Historical Society home page. Interesting stuff. I had no idea there was a Hueytown. Sounds like someplace I should visit, should I ever get to Alabama! Thanks!
Version Control
If you want to set up a relatively simple yet powerful version control system on a Windows server, and you don’t want to spend any money on it, I recommend CVS. Start with CVSNT. Use Tortoise CVS as a front-end. Then, check this page for a quick and easy way to set up ViewCVS. Worked for me.
Beyond Compare
I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time lately looking at file synchronization software. I’ve been playing around with Vice Versa Pro for a week or so, and it works reasonably well. I stumbled across Beyond Compare today, though, and I think I’ll probably switch to that. It’s got a slightly nicer interface, and it’s got interesting scripting capabilities.
iBook back
The iBook is back, in one piece, and working dandy! I’m a very happy person. They didn’t have to reformat or replace my hard drive, so I didn’t lose any data.
iBook away
I gave my iBook to a nice man at the Menlo Park Apple Store today so they could send it back to Apple and replace the logic board. I should have it back in a week or two, and (hopefully) they won’t nuke the hard drive in the process.
